In memory of
James Hetherington Jr.
James Hetherington, Jr., cherished by his wife as "Hun", valued by his children as simply "Dad", adored by his grandchildren as "Pap" and revered by his students as "The Chief" went to be with the Lord following complications of renal failure on April 18, 2018 at age 91. Jim was born on June 14, 1926 in New Eagle, PA to James and Mary Hetherington. The Hetheringtons raised their family in Wheeling, WV, where James completed his secondary education at Tridelphia High School. Upon graduation, he served his country as gunner in the United States Air Force and then continued his quest for knowledge earning his undergraduate degree in chemistry at West Liberty College and his master's degree at Antioch College. Jim was a sports enthusiast of all kinds but it was on the golf course in 1947, where he traded caddies with his golf partner to win the prize of his heart and a romance blossomed that would endure a lifetime. Jim and Ruth were married on June 14, 1952 in Wheeling, WV. That same year, they moved to Willoughby Hills, OH to embark on their life adventure and raise a family. Jim enjoyed a notable career as a high school teacher in chemistry, physics, and science in the Cleveland area for the next 35 years but he never "retired" because "there's always more to learn." He will be remembered most as a loyal husband, a dutiful father, a respected high school teacher and basketball coach, and a reliable friend and neighbor. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Ruth; his children, James (Pat) Hetherington, Karrie (Steve) Solether, Drew (Tracey) Hetherington; six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
