MILFORD, Ohio - Donald L. Harris, 75, of Milford, formerly of Salamanca, N.Y., died Sunday (April 15, 2018) at Clermont Nursing Care Center of Milford. Born Jan. 16, 1943 in Salamanca, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Geraldine Sherman Harris. He was married in Little Valley, N.Y., to the former Virginia "Ginny" Corey, who predeceased him on Dec. 12, 2014. Mr. Harris was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a corporal in Vietnam. He earned the Rifle Marksmanship Badge, the Navy Unit Commendation Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars and the Purple Heart. He had been employed as a railroad operator with the B&O Railroad. He was a member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296. Surviving are a daughter, Sharon (Mark Pigman) Harris of Batavia, Ohio; a son, Michael (Rose) Harris of Gowanda, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Austen, Logan, Max, Carissa and Carter; a brother, Robert (Rose) Harris of Bridgeton, N.C.; and a nephew, Steve Harris. There will be no visitation. A graveside memorial service will be held at Wildwood Cemetery, at the convenience of the family, and will be announced. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
