In memory of
Ida Salvesen Corder
Ida Salvesen Corder passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018. She was born on Dec. 1, 1922 in Werner, N.D., the fifth of six children born to Anna Tomina and Gjeruld Salvesen, who had immigrated to the United States from Norway. Her family moved from North Dakota to New York City in 1929. She graduated from George Washington High School in 1939, and continued on to Miller's Secretarial College in New York City. Her first secretarial position was at Bell Telephone Laboratories, Greenwich Village, N.Y. Ida met her husband, Orray W. Corder of Hurlock, Maryland, who was in the Army, stationed at West Point, N.Y. They were married May 6, 1944 and, upon his discharge after nearly five years of service, made their home in Milford. In 1954, Ida became secretary to the principal of Milford High School. In 1971, she resigned to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Ida lived a devoted Christian life. Her faith was her compass; her kindnesses were innumerable and she was a true nurturer who radiated grace. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Orray, and her daughter, Ida Gail Corder of Lewes. She is survived by daughters: Nancy (Gordon) Gates of Lincolnton, N.C., Bonnie Sanders of Windham, N.H., seven grandchildren: Scott Gates, Todd Gates, Brittany (Sean) Richardson, Adria VanBuskirk, Julie (Juan) Velasquez, Trent Sanders, David Sanders and several great-grandchildren. Her services were held Tuesday, April 10, followed by interment at Milford Community Cemetery.
