Michael Jerry "Mike" Ballard
Michael Jerry (Mike) Ballard, 70, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the Carpenter House in Baton Rouge. He was born in Baton Rouge and was a resident of Prairieville. Mike worked as a valve salesman in his younger days. He was an inventor/creator and was proud of his patents of products used in the valve industry and several businesses he owned. After marrying Patricia, he went to work in her company, Precision Graphics, and they formed a good team. She gives him total credit in the founding and operating of the Metals Division for valve identification, using his product in the U. S. and overseas. Mike served in the U.S. Air Force as an Air Freight/Cargo Specialist during the Vietnam War. Among other medals, he received the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service in 1965–1966. In December of 2017, the V.A. determined that he had critical health issues that were 100% related to direct exposure to Agent Orange. A memorial gathering was held at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales on Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 10 a.m. until a celebration of life service at 1 p.m., conducted by Dennis Blackwell followed by rendering of military honors. Active Pallbearer Eric Bolton. Honorary pallbearers were Ashley Aymond, Corey Callegan, Brian Bolton, Mark Cambre and David Johnson. Entombment followed at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie, La. Mike is survived by his wife Patricia Ponthier; 1 daughter, Jamie Seghers (Walter); 3 stepchildren who he considered his own; daughters, Mary Aymond and Dori Aymond; son, Ashley Aymond; brother Malcolm "Buddy" Ballard (Grace); grandchildren, Darien Seghers and Maya Maizie Aymond; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Sylvester Dewey Ballard and Evon McKnight Ballard; sister, Hilda Ballard Herbert (James). Mike loved cheeseburgers, old movies, bonfires, camping, fireworks and road trips. As a teenager, Mike was a "Gearhead", working on his and friends' cars. He was a UFO and Alien Enthusiast and he and Patricia enjoyed attending UFO Festivals. In recent years, he treasured renewed friendships and monthly dinner with his GOHS Class of '65. He loved Friday night BBQ and Dominoes, listening to Oldies and the Grand Ole Opry with his lady. Most of all he loved Patricia, his joined-at-the hip best friend. He was always creating, fixing and figuring things out. Her loves and interests were his and his world revolved in making her dreams and ideas come to fruition. Special thanks to Nurse Trigve and Catherine at Carpenter House in Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CureJM or the ALS Association.
