Margaret R. Greaney, 87 Mother of seven, grandmother of 11! Mrs. Margaret R. Greaney, formerly of Prince's Bay, Staten Island, and Flatlands, Brooklyn, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 10, 2018, at Carmel Richmond Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, where she had resided for the past three years. Margaret was born on Sept. 15, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Francis and Margaret Waters. She attended Bishop Memorial High School. After a short career at Marine Midland Bank, Margaret married her "Quiet Man," Dennis J. Greaney, in 1955. While raising their family in Brooklyn, Margaret was an active member in St. Vincent Ferrer Parish, serving in various roles, including principal of the teenage religious education program, and director of youth softball. Margaret also served on the Mother's Clubs at Nazareth and Bishop Kearney High Schools. Margaret and Dennis were married for 50 years. In retirement, they relocated to Staten Island in 1995. There, Margaret enjoyed some rest and relaxation, usually by reading a good library book, or watching an old John Wayne movie. But more than anything, Margaret enjoyed cooking a holiday roast, and hosting her ever-expanding family. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Maryalice, Maureen, Dennis and Peggy (Lava), Kevin and Peggy (McGovern), Colleen, James and Donna (Canderozzi), and Margaret and Tim Gray; and her grandchildren, Allison, Dennis, Matthew, Hannah, Emily, James, Timothy, Dillon, Shannon, Finnola, and Molly. Viewing hours are Tuesday, March 13, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Casey McCallum-Rice South Shore Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is Wednesday, March 14, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 6135 Amboy Rd., Staten Island, N.Y. 10309. Burial is at St. John Cemetery, Middle Village, N.Y. The family is thankful for the loving care and service Margaret received at Carmel Richmond. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Carmelite Sisters of the Aged and Infirm, Carmel Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, 88 Old Town Rd., Staten Island, N.Y. 10304, in memory of Mrs. Margaret R. Greaney. Casey-McCallum Rice South Shore F/H 30 Nelson Ave. Staten Island, N.Y. 10308 (718) 317-7600
