FREDERICK VANPELT
Frederick VanPelt, 91 Staten Island native, WWII Army Air Corps veteran Frederick Alonzo VanPelt, 91, died on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at his home in Norlina, N.C. He was born in Staten Island, N.Y., the son of the late Frederick Leslie VanPelt and Gertrude Kniskern VanPelt. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Susan G. VanPelt Somma and Margie VanPelt D'Aversa; a brother, Bill VanPelt, and a sister, Dottie Frank. Mr. Van Pelt was a U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran, a 70-year member of Local Union 3 IBEW, and a member of the VFW. He attended PS 20 Port Richmond, Port Richmond High School, Class of 1944, and lived in Staten Island until 1980. He moved to Otisville, N.Y., after retirement in 1981. He then moved to Bentley Creek, Pa., and in 2012, he moved to Norlina. Mr. VanPelt was a descendent of Captain Peter VanPelt who was part of the S.I. Militia in 1700. He was an avid fan of the New York Mets, Giants and Rangers. He is survived by his wife, Mary T. VanPelt; children, Kathleen VanPelt Grant (Paul), Janet E. VanPelt Pfeiffer (John), Frederick C. VanPelt (Loretta) and Laura VanPelt Johnston (Eric); 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton, N.C., is serving the family.
