In memory of
June 1, 1917 - Jan. 26, 2018 Woodland Nelly Rodriguez passed away at age 100 on Jan. 26, after a brief illness. She was born in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico on June 1, 1917. Her father, Dolores Mosqueda died soon thereafter. Her mother Concepcion eventually remarried, and when Nelly was three years old, she and her mother, stepfather, brother and sister came to the United States, living first in Iowa and in Wyoming before coming to California and settling in Knights Landing in the mid-1920s. By then, Nelly had six sisters and two brothers. Nelly married Catarino Rodriguez, a marriage that lasted over 50 years until his death in 2002. During those years she worked at the Contadina cannery in Woodland and as a teacher's aide in a program for bilingual children. Remarkably, the three children who came to the U.S. with their parents all reached the age of 100. Nelly celebrated her 100th birthday last June with a large gathering of family and friends. It was a highlight of her life and she was able to enjoy it because she was still in amazing good health physically and mentally. Her brother Concepcion lived to the age of 103, passing away in 2014 and her sister Justina was also 100 years old when she died in 2015. She did not have children but our Aunt Nelly loved all her nephews and nieces as her own. She was a loving, caring, gentle person who never wanted to hurt anyone's feelings. For as long as she was able, she enjoyed going to the casinos in Tahoe, she loved music, especially Mexican music, and the San Francisco Giants. She was preceded in death by her husband; her brothers, Concepcion and Joey; sisters, Justina, Lupe, Mary, Theresa, and Josephine, and several beloved nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sister. Sarah, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family thanks Laura Gomez for the loving care she gave our aunt during the last few years of her life. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Feb. 12, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Rosary Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery on California Street, followed by a Celebration of Life at Tumulty Hall, 315 Walnut St.
