Kenneth L. Schave
Kenneth L. Schave, 84, of Port Hope, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at his home, with his family by his side, under hospice care. He was born on Sept. 5, 1933, in Port Hope, to the late Floyd and Frieda (Schubring) Schave. Ken served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1957. He and Janet Schultz were united in marriage on Nov. 9, 1957, in Port Hope. Ken was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope, where he served as a elder, president, school board trustee, and usher, and was chaplain of the AmVets Post 115 of Port Hope. He was a retired employee of Clancy Construction, and was a former farm manager of the Gudakunst Polled Herfords Farm. He was trustee of the Huron Township Board, serving as a constable and on the Board of Review. Ken enjoyed ice fishing, playing cards, a third generation Square Dance Caller, and was a farmer at heart. He is survived by his wife Janet Schave of Port Hope, his daughter Sandra (Todd) Seibt of Flushing; two grandchildren Nathan (Sadie) Seibt of South Dakota, and Luke Seibt of Flushing; one great grandchild Pippa Seibt; his brother Gary Schave; sisters-in-law Linda Schave and Nancy Schave; brothers and sisters-in-law Dave (Frieda) Schultz of Austin, Texas, Les (Ann) Schultz of Birch Run; and nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his son Scott Schave; siblings Robert and Donald Schave; and sisters and brothers-in-law Joyce Schave, Caroline Schultz, Donald Schultz and Robert Schultz. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory. Funeral service for Ken will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church of Port Hope, with Rev. David Doge officiating. Internment will take place at a later date at New River Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. A White Clover service will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. A scripture service will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to: St. John Church Stained Glass Windows, St. John Trustee Fund, or Heartland Hospice. Memories can be shared at www.RamseyFH.com
