Francis J. Arthurs
Francis J. Arthurs, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. Francis was born in Wilmington, son of the late Joseph G. and Mabel (Wooldridge) Arthurs. He was a mail carrier for the Milford Post Office for over 35 years, retiring in 1997. Francis also delivered parts for Wright's NAPA Auto Parts and served in the National Guard. Mr. Arthurs had a servant's heart and loved to serve others. He loved being outdoors gardening, cutting grass, doing woodworking, honey-do projects, fishing or going to the beach. He was a train enthusiast and collected electric model trains. He especially loved spending time with family. He was a faithful member of the Houston U.M. church and was very active in the church ministries. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Mary E. Arthurs. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce (Buarque) Arthurs; five children, David Arthurs and wife Michelle, of Middletown, Sandra Mitchell and husband Walt, of Greenwood, Susan Speicher and husband Randy, of Milford, Jayme Arthurs and wife Stephanie, of Houston, and Wendy McMahan and husband John, also of Milford; 11 grandchildren, David Nathaniel Arthurs, Jonathan Mitchell, Devin Arthurs, Heartli Mitchell Holston, Kayla Hutson, Joshua Jefferson, Summer Arthurs, Kennedie Arthurs, Jayden Arthurs, Saige McMahan and Willow McMahan; and three great grandchildren, Quin Arthurs, Skyler Holston and baby Mitchell, due in December. A funeral service was held Thursday, June 29, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, with burial in Milford Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or Houston U.M. Church, c/o Rev. Helen McFadden, 110 Beach Plum Drive, Milford, DE 19963.
