JOYCE (McKELVEY) RAWITSCHER
RAWITSCHER, JOYCE (McKELVEY) Joyce passed away on Nov. 7 2016, at the age of 76 years, in Storrs, CT. The memorial service will be held Feb. 4 at 11 AM in the Congregational Church in Storrs (corner of North Eagleville and route 195). In addition to many friends , she leaves behind two children, David and Annie, three grandchildren Zev, Spencer and Ruby, a husband, George Rawitscher, and a sister Carol. Joyce was born on January 8, 1940 in Orleans, New York. She attended Syracuse University as an undergraduate, received her Master’s degree from the School of Social Work at the University of Chicago, and her Ph.D in Social Welfare from Fordham University. Joyce was a dedicated clinical social worker, specializing in geriatric social work during the latter part of her career. Due to her leadership qualities, sunny personality, and her firm calling to combat injustice against oppressed people, she was involved with many peace organizations. In 2009 she founded the Israel/Palestine Peace, Education and Action Group of Eastern Connecticut. Joyce had an exceptionally high quality of leadership and morality, left an impact to the world of peace and we all miss her sorely. If you would like to contribute to some peace organization in lieu of flowers, two suggestions are.
