Phyllis Deaton
DEATON, Phyllis Ann Phyllis Ann Deaton, 72 of Atlanta, GA passed away peacefully on January 14th at Hospice Atlanta with family members at her side. Phyllis was the daughter of Carl and Sally Harmon and grew up in Des Moines, IA. Phyllis earned her liberal arts degree at Drake University in 1967. She spent her early career with Abbott Laboratories in Waukegan IL and later joined Raytheon in word processing equipment sales to major accounts in the Chicago area. Phyllis and her husband Dennis relocated to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in 1980 where she worked for Northlake College. Following a return to Chicago, in 1994, Phyllis joined Barnes & Noble at their Deerfield location. She continued with B & N after moving to Atlanta in 2004 where she enjoyed meeting and helping customers. Phyllis was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2013 and entered hospice care in December of 2016. She is survived by her husband Dennis of forty two years, her brother Dick Harmon, four step children (Beth Ehlen, Tim Deaton, Heather Deaton and their families (all in Wisconsin) & Scott Deaton and his family (in Pittsburgh, PA)), eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren and two nephews. Family and friends are gathering in Atlanta for a celebration of life on January 20. At a date to be determined there will a graveside service at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago.
