Charles M. Carchidi formerly of Leominster, MA; 83 Charles M. Carchidi, 83, died in Fullerton, California on Saturday, October 29, 2016. He was born Charles Michele Carchidi on February 1, 1933 in Leominster, Massachusetts, to Dominic and Teresina (Verano) Carchidi, who immigrated from Southern Italy, the region of Calabria. The youngest of 15 children, Mr. Carchidi attended Leominster High School, receiving his diploma in 1951. After brief employment with Crowley Construction Company in his home town of Leominster, MA, Mr. Carchidi entered military service (U.S. Army) on March 23, 1953 in Boston, MA. He attained the rank of Corporal on September 14, 1954 and served in the Korean War. He was awarded the following medals: Korean Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal; and National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Carchidi received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on March 17, 1955 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. Shortly thereafter, he was admitted to, and matriculated at, the University of Bridgeport, College of Business Administration, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree on January 29, 1960. Mr. Carchidi began his business career in public accounting with Price Waterhouse. In the 1960s and early 1970s, he moved on to hold high-level positions in finance and accounting with public companies such as Becton Dickinson (East Rutherford, New Jersey) and Ethan Allan Furniture (Danbury, Connecticut), where he served as financial controller. Thereafter, Mr. Carchidi left the "city life" and moved to northern New Hampshire where he owned and operated Colebrook Oil, Inc., a Mobil Oil distributorship located in Colebrook, New Hampshire. In the early 1980s, Mr. Carchidi moved to Oregon and helped to expand the sales and marketing force for Northern Data Systems, Inc. ("NDS"), based in Falmouth, Maine. His entrepreneurial motivation, and relationship with NDS and its then-President, Charles Stevens, led to Mr. Carchidi developing one of the earliest-generation electronic medical insurance billing businesses. Mr. Carchidi owned and operated the Grants Pass, Oregon based company, known as NDS Serv-Ver Corp., until his retirement in 2014. In 2012, Mr. Carchidi moved to southern California, to be closer to his son, Jeff, and his family. The next year, he acquired his new "baby," a Pomeranian puppy named Geppetto, who quickly became his loved companion and never left his side throughout the remainder of his time on this earth. Preceding him in death are his parents, Dominic and Teresina (Verano) Carchidi; brothers, George, Samual, Joseph, Dominic and Fr. Rudolph, CSC; sisters Mary Frisina, Augusta Picone, Antonetta DiRusso, and Katherine Grieci; and four siblings who died in infancy. He is survived by one sister, Sister Teresa Rose Carchidi, MPV, of Worcester, Massachusetts, his son, Jeff George Carchidi, and grandson, Michael Augustus Carchidi (age 18 months), both of Irvine, California, as well as many nieces and nephews.
