Dorothy Podbesek
Dorothy Cheran Podbesek, 95, of Rillton, entered her eternal life on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016. She was born March 6, 1921, in Yukon, a daughter of the late Peter and Milka Cheran. On July 27, 1947, she married Martin Podbesek, who preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1984. Dorothy was a lifetime member of Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church, Youngwood, where she was well-known for her delicious baked goods and elaborately decorated kolach for holidays and feast days. She was active in the Kolo Srpskih Sestara and a lifetime member of the Rillton VFW Post 8518 Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Martin Jr.; four sisters, Martha Simich, Mildred Tishma, Zora Cheran and Sarah Komljenovich; and four brothers, Steve, Alex, Mike and Roy Cheran. She is survived by her son, Roy Podbesek and his wife, Katherine; grandson, Martin (Jennifer); granddaughter, Nancy; great-granddaughters, Sophia and Anna; sister, Ann Vranesivic; brother-in-law, Don; and several loving and devoted nieces and nephews, whom she cherished for enhancing her life throughout her years. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the JAMES W. SHIRLEY FUNERAL HOME, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church, Youngwood, with Father Ruman officiating. Please go directly to the church.
