In memory of
Eleanor Van Winkle
Eleanor "Ellie" Van Winkle, 83, died on September 1st. A dedicated kindergarten teacher, she affected the lives of many Boulder kids. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Howard "Rip" Van Winkle and her sister Maude Ackerman of Florida. Rip and Ellie opened their home to teach area kids about Ham Radio and electronics for over 24 years. Through their club, BARC Jr. (Boulder Amateur Radio Club, Junior), more than 250 kids became licensed Amateur Radio operators. Ellie herself operated as N0QCX. Ellie was born in Berlin, Germany, and arrived in New York with her family as a baby. She moved from there to the Boulder area where she's lived for almost 60 years. A mother to many of us, she won't soon be forgotten. A memorial celebration is being planned. For more information, contact ellievwmemorial@gmail.com.
