Shirley L. Bowser
Shirley L. Bowser, 81, Perry Highway, Hadley (Sandy Creek Township), passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at the UPMC Horizon, Greenville Campus, with her family by her side. Shirley was born Dec. 14, 1932, a daughter of the late Clair and Twila (Hetrick) Bowser. She married James A. Bowser on July 8, 1949, who preceded her in death Aug. 21, 1987. She had owned and operated Shirley's Twin Kiss, Hadley from 1968 to 2000, and was affectionately known in the community as the Ice Cream Lady. She was a member of the Center Hill Church of the Brethern, Kittanning. Shirley is survived by a son, Barry J. Bowser and his wife, Sandi, of Hadley; two daughters, Linda K. Smith and her husband, Thomas, of Kittanning, and Susanne J. Larimer and her husband, Steven, of Hadley; three brothers, Harold Bowser and his wife, Beverly, of Kittanning, Paul Bowser and his wife, Delores, of Warren, Ohio, and Larry Bowser and his wife, Jenny, of Leeper; three sisters, Esther Van Horne, of Cleveland, Ohio, Myrna Whitlinger and her husband, William, of Apollo, and Phyllis Cook and her companion, Frank Yacucci, of North Jackson, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Donald Bowser. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Center Hill Church of the Brethren, 2039 Freeport Road, Kittanning, with the Rev. Timothy Bowser, pastor of North Salem United Methodist Church, officiating. The interment will be at the Center Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the ROBERT L. SNYDER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 3223 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville, and from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
