Obituary of Ulysse Julien A native of Modeste and a resident of Donaldsonville; passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on the morning of June 15, 2016. He was a World War II veteran. He received his Bachelor's in Elementary Education in 1955; a Master's degree in Elementary Education in 1965, and a plus 30 from Southern University. He retired from Iberville Parish School System in 1987 after Devoting almost 34 years of service to public education as a mathematics teacher. He was Highly respected by his former students as he fondly called them "trouble" and they referred to him simply as "Mr. Julien". He was the treasurer of most of his organizational affiliations. He was on the Board of Trustees and the financial secretary of First Baptist Church of Smoke Bend. He was a member of Ishmael Temple #157, Norman D. Jones Consistory #338, Hiram Lodge #12 F&A.M.P.H.A; and the Donaldsonville Shrine Club. Social organizations included Stag 20, Second Friday ,and theTraveling 10.He is survived by a loving granddaughter whom he reared as his own,Tarahna A. Lewis and her companion Charles Gaines Jr. of Donaldsonville ,a son and daughter in law David P. James Sr. and Judy of Port Allen. Three grandsons, Tyrone Lewis of Huntersville, N.C., David P. Jr. and Devante James of Port Allen. Six greatgrandchildren, Jaikaylinn, Jay'Alexandriea and Julien Jarvis, Tyler and Chandler Lewis, and Blake Gaines. One Greatgreatgranddaughter Jay'Alexandra Jarvis. A special nephew, Aaron Julien Sr. of Modeste. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Rose Julien, two daughters, Jean Ellen Julien Newson and Jacqueline Julien Lewis, his parents, Charles and Mary Johnson Julien,four brothers and seven sisters, and one greatgreatgrandson Kingston D. Jarvis. Services will be held Saturday, June 25 at 10am at Mt.Triumph Baptist Church, Donaldsonville, officiated by Rev. Melvin Williams. Visitation will be Friday, June24 from 5-7pm at Demby and Son Funeral Home in Donaldsonville and Saturday from 8am until the service begins.
