In memory of
Richard L. Votaw, age 71, of Morrow County and formerly of Delaware, died Saturday afternoon, April 23, 2016 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus after an uphill battle against lung and liver cancer and COPD. He was born on December 18, 1944 in Delaware, Ohio the son of the late William Votaw and Ada Bell (Farley) Groves. Richard was a veteran of the United States Army and a 30+ year employee of Ranco in Delaware as a supervisor before his retirement. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #376 and AmVets Post #102 both in Delaware. Richard would "raise hell" about those in politics…he didn't care for any of them…especially those running right now. Richard loved his cars and typically bought a new one every couple years. His favorite was probably his first one, a Plymouth Roadrunner and Pontiac GTO. Although, his most recent car, a Dodge Charger was a close second. He also enjoyed getting out on the open road on his motorcycle, a Yamaha CC 750. He enjoyed bowling golfing, and fishing. Richard was also a huge Buckeye fan, following all things Ohio State, especially football and basketball. Richard loved keeping up with his grandkids and great grandkids, always getting updates from Crystal on who was up to what. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Crystal Hinkle and her husband Robert of Sunbury; his son Richard "Rick" Votaw and his wife Roberta of Marengo; five grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brothers Jackie of Chillicothe and Jerry of Fredericktown; sisters Rosemary of Centerburg, Peggy of Marengo, Sheila of Zanesville, and Diane of Kentucky. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers Larry, Eddie, Gene, and Donny. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Alum Creek Friends Church, 3385 State Route 229, Marengo, Ohio 43334 with Pastor Greg Rice officiating. Military honors will follow immediately after the service at the church. The Devore-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve Mr. Votaw's family.
