In memory of
GERALD IRMITER
Gerald Francis Irmiter passed away from a heart attack at the age of 73 on Friday, May 18, 2012 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville. Known to everyone as Jerry, he was a strong, fun-loving, family- oriented man who lived a full life. He loved a good party with his children and grandchildren, whether in the backyard over a campfire, or at family celebrations. Jerry was a longtime supporter of the Minnesota Vikings (although he was married to a Packers fan) and the Twins, and enjoyed watching and talking all things sports. Born on September 16, 1938 on a farm outside of Ringsted to Henry and Ione (Bollig) and raised in both Emmet and Kossuth Counties, Jerry attended and graduated from the Armstrong Public Schools. He married Helena Rolling of Bancroft at St. John the Baptist on June 6, 1959. After working for Knapp Implement beginning in 1962, a year later the couple settled in Ringsted where they made their home and raised their family of 17 children. While working for Knapp, he attended the John Deere trade school. He enjoyed working with local farmers and was proud to be associated with John Deere. The highlights of his time working for Knapp and John Deere included visits to Mexico and the Bahamas. Jerry served as a member of the Ringsted Fire Department for over 15 years and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Armstrong. Jerry is survived by his wife of over 50 years, 10 sons, 6 daughters, and their spouses: Tina Irmiter (wife of the late Matthew) of Fort Wayne, IN; Donald and Lisa of Hartley; Madonna and Mark Indgjer of Champlin, MN; Deanna Link of Elkhorn, NE; Gary and Deb of New Ulm, MN; Wayne and Becky of Clive; Fran and Tammy of Valley, AL; Allen and Shelly of Spencer; Martin of Algona; Dean and Renae of Armstrong; Dale and Ann of Spencer; Marcia of Osceola; Anthony of Rocky Mount, VA; Paul and Ingrid of North Mankato, MN; Elizabeth and Mitchell Glodek of Indianola; Sarah Hansen of Ringsted; and Rachel of Lexington, SC. He was the very proud grandpa of 32 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren: Grant and Brandy (sons Mason and Blake), Morgan, Madelyn; Ben (son Alex), Jordan, Seth; Samantha; Patricia, Zachary and Amber (son Oren), Michael, Austin; Micayla, Luke; Jared, Nathan, Meredith; Amanda, Daniel; Caleb, Meghan; Riley; Emily, Linsey; Mariah, Hannah, Olivia; Ty, Landon; Amber, Addison; Eleanore; and James. The oldest of 8 children, Jerry leaves behind 3 brothers, 4 sisters, and their spouses: Julius and Barb of Armstrong; Joan and Tom Pfleghaar of Buffalo, MN; Patricia and Lee Williams of Cedar Falls; Margie and Bob Stratemeyer of Sierra Vista, AZ; Kathy Irmiter and Mark Herbeandsen of Waterloo; Richard of Armstrong; and Larry and Florence of San Diego, CA. In addition, Jerry is survived by many well-loved in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews as well as 2 aunts: Donna Jean (Bollig) Muller and Betty Ann (Bollig) Kollasch. Preceding him in passing were his parents, Henry and Ione; brother, James; son, Matthew; and grandson, Josh Irmiter; as well as several of his aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials.
