Mrs. Erika Wubbena
Wubbena Erika Wubbena, 90, of Neffsville, Pa, formerly of Dover, DE, died on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Brethren Village in Neffsville after a short illness. Born Caroline Luise Erika Wilharm on September 15, 1921, in Poznan, Poland, she was the daughter of Ludwig and Marie Prussner Wilharm. The family immigrated to the United States in December 1923 and settled near Elgin, IL. A 1939 graduate of Dundee High School, she attended Ellis Business College, Elgin, IL, and subsequently worked in Chicago. On September 22, 1943, she married Wyatt Wubbena and soon thereafter he was stationed at Dover Air Force Base, DE. At the end of World War II, they remained in Dover and raised their family. After her husband's death in 1981, she moved to Lancaster County, PA, and had been a resident at Brethren Village since 1993. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ginther, and grandson Timothy Reading. She is survived by two daughters, Luise (Charles) Reading of Lititz, PA, and Cheryl (Benjamin) Keckler of Indianapolis, IN; two sons, Jan (Teresa) and Kurt, both of Siloam Springs, AR; and two brothers, Ludwig of Beloit, WI, and Martin, of Dundee, IL. Her surviving grandchildren include Judi Reading of Lititz, PA, Karl Reading of Latrobe, PA, Kevin Keckler of West Lafayette, IN, Amy Keckler Williams of Colorado Springs, CO, Robert Wubbena of Fort Riley, KS, and Mary Wubbena of Amoussime, Togo, West Africa. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at the Brethren Village Chapel on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. J. Mark Tedford officiating. Her cremains will be interred at the Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens in Columbia, PA, in a private service. The family will receive friends at the Chapel from 10:30 A.M. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Brethren Village Benevolence Fund, P.O. Box 5093, Lancaster, PA 17606-5093.
