He faithfully served his church as an elder, catechism teacher, and much-loved and long-time Bible Study teacher. Carl served his community as a Kentwood City Commissioner for twelve years and he taught mathematics at Calvin College for thirty-five years. He brought smiles to hundreds of children who came to ride his backyard railroad. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly Saturdays when he would spend time working in his shop and on his railroad, ending the day with a Saturday night supper of hamburgers where all family members were welcome. He spent his life in service of his precious Lord and Savior, his only comfort in life and now in death, and in whose arms he now rests. Special thanks to the kind caregivers at the Fresenius Dialysis Clinic, Breton Manor Rehab Center, St. Mary's Hospital, and Gentiva Home Health.
