Chamberlain, Pamela L. 7/22/1958 - 7/1/2015 Gaithersburg, MD After graduating from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Chamberlain began her career as a veterinarian in a small, mixed animal practice in Sturgis, Michigan.She then moved to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) to spend 14 years in the Office of New Animal Drug Evaluation, Division of Human Safety.While at CVM, Pam developed expertise in food safety toxicology.Notable accomplishments during her tenure at CVM include achieving the credential of Diplomate, American Board of Toxicology, and a PhD in Toxicology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.Dr. Chamberlain spent a year at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva working for the International Program for Chemical Safety. She spent the next chapter of her career in private industry as a Study Director, and later Associate Director for Veterinary Services.Dr. Chamberlain rejoined the FDA to apply her diverse background, experiences, and knowledge to help advance the regulatory science mission of the Office of Counterterrorism and Emerging Threats. She served as the Interim Institutional Official for the FDA White Oak Animal Research Program. Pam passed away peacefully in her home on July 1st after a brave, defiant fight against pancreatic cancer for over a year. For all of us who knew her and loved her, we understood her wittiness and her endless ability to find humor in any situation. She was strong, sensitive, loyal, fearless, and never afraid to stand up for what she believed in.She firmly believed that animal research gave her a longer and better quality of life during her long battle against cancer.Her legacy at the FDA includes upholding quality standards for animal research in the fight against animal and human disease. She was preceded in death by her father, John Chamberlain; brother, Thomas Chamberlain; and beloved aunt, Mary Bayley. She will be lovingly remembered by her spouse, Teri Gilger; mother, Shirley; siblings Pastor Phillip (Esther); Larry (Carla); special cousin, Bonnie Bayley, and a host of other special nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Please join the family in celebrating the life of Pamela on Saturday, July 11th from 2-4 at Cook Funeral Home on 4235 Prairie St. SW in Grandville, Michigan 49418. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, PO Box 1848, Longmont Colorado 80502 in memory of Pamela Chamberlain.
