LYNCH DONALD LEWIS LYNCH age 94, of Elyria, and long time resident of Moreland Hills, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH. Donald was the son of Lewis "Louis" Duane and Florence Mae (nee Ackley). He was born in Kalamazoo, MI, on the farm where his mother's family lived. He grew up in Milwaukee, WI, was graduated from Custer High School and the University of Wisconsin, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed in Cleveland when he enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve in 1944, and served on the USS Aristaeus, a battle damage repair ship, in the Pacific during WWII. He had met Margaret Ellen Wemple at Epworth-Euclid Methodist Church and they were married there before he shipped out. After the war, he was a mechanical engineer for several companies before working at Reliance Electric, where he spent the rest of his career, specializing in electric motor design. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society for Metals. He was awarded a patent from the United States Patent Office. He and Margaret were active members of Epworth-Euclid United Methodist Church (now renamed University Circle United Methodist Church). He was active for many years in the Orange Patronaires (supporting music programs at Orange Schools), Friends of the Orange Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library, the Moreland Hills Historical Society, and the Black River Audubon Society. He enjoyed photography, opera, the Cleveland Orchestra, fishing, birding, cooking, baking bread, traveling around the United States, and following Wisconsin Badgers football and basketball. He could fix anything! He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret, son Bruce Lynch of Milwaukee, WI, grandson Dillan Molenaar, and sister Ardith Greene. He is survived by five children Karen Frederick of Bedford, MA, Elaine (Donald) Bogus of Chagrin Falls, OH, Pauline Molenaar of Dracut, MA, Lawrence (Annemarie Hirsch) Lynch of Eugene, OR, and Elisabeth (William) Miner, currently living in Seoul, South Korea; grandchildren Mark (Katrina) Frederick, Sarah Frederick, Elizabeth (Raiford) Storey, Valerie Bogus, Elliott (Hannah) Lynch, Rachel (David) Henry, Kevin (Louisa) Lynch, Eric Lynch, and Jennifer Miner; seven great-grand children; siblings Marjorie Giese, Gerald Lynch, Charlotte Wesenberg, and Norman Lynch; his aunt Evelyn Esch (nee Ackley); and many nieces and nephews. He was active most recently at Wesleyan Village in Elyria, where he has resided for eight years. Memorial contributions may be made to the University Circle UMC.
