George Benton Herring, 77, of Kinston passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Johnie and Carrie Mae Stafford Herring. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Wagner Herring, sister, Susan Herring Gardner, and brother, James Arthur John Herring. George was a member of Westminster United Methodist Church and a retired Supervisor with DuPont. Survivors include his daughter, Donna Herring Raynor and husband Dalton of Ayden; son, Michael Carl Herring and wife Susan of Wilmington; grandchildren, Alex Thomas Raynor, Eric Benton Raynor, Sarah Alise Herring and Liza Wagner Herring; and twin brother, David Herring and wife Linda of Goldsboro. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Reverend T. R. Miller officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or to the Lenoir County SPCA, 2455 Rouse Road Extension, Kinston, NC 28504. Howard-Carter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
