BORDERLAND, W.Va. — Mary Ellen Kennedy Collins, 63, of Dan's Branch, Borderland, passed away Mon., January 13, 2014, at her home following a lingering illness. Born July 19, 1950, at Welch, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Alice Addair Kennedy. Also preceding her in death was her loving husband of 44 years, Eddie Ray Collins; one brother, Kenneth Kennedy; one sister, Dee Shamblin, and a niece, Tina Collins Blevins. Mary was a homemaker. She was a woman that truly had a mother's heart. She always made sure that her loved ones were taken care of even before her own needs. She was one of the most unselfish, loving, encouraging, and devoted persons of all time. She lived her life surrounded by children that she considered her own. Survivors include one son, Andrew Wayne Collins (Nancy Farley) of Williamson; one daughter, Amy Doreen Collins (Bert Gibson) of Red Jacket; one brother, Dennis (Dee) Lawson of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Micki Shamblin of Columbus; a very special daughter/caregiver, Felina Sexton of Dan's Branch; her grandchildren, Donald Workman, Kayla Farley, Kaitlyn and Kennedy West, Isaiah Young, Laikyn Holt, Zac Workman, Ellen (Christopher) Williams, and Cassie Yates; her great-grandchildren, Damien and Drake Workman, Cayden Baisden, Kaylii and Krislynn Williams; special nephews, D.J. Collins, Johnny (Wendy) Collins, Eddie Bob Collins, Floyd (Ann) Collins, and Benji Collins; special nieces, Crystal (Bobby) Pennington, Rebecca Collins, Nikki Collins, Tracy Dempsey, and Shelby (Keith) Sansom; someone special who was like a nephew and who always helped in time of need, Shannon Thompson. Also surviving is a host of other nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, and friends. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Fri., Jan. 17, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bud Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Collins Cemetery at Dan's Branch with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home with a special service at 7 p.m. Thursday evening with Haskell Runyon Jr. and Freddie Runyon officiating.
