HAMBURG - Garrett E. Jackson, 86, of Hamburg, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Newton Medical Center. Born in Smith Falls, Ontario, Canada, Mr. Jackson grew up in Detroit, Mich., and raised his family in the area until his retirement in 1990, when he moved to Savannah, Ga. Mr. Jackson lived in Hamburg for the past year. Mr. Jackson was the owner of Shaver Shop Inc., a distributor of small electrical appliances. Mr. Jackson was a United States Army veteran. Garrett loved golf and sports, and enjoyed following the University of Michigan's football and basketball teams. The son of the late Franklin Howell and Irene (Hunter) Jackson, Mr. Jackson also was predeceased by his son, Kurt Jackson; his brother, Lincoln Jackson; and sister, June Meader. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Catherine (Marsh) Jackson; four children, Carol Maten and husband, Michael, of Williamsburg, Mich., Gail Washburn and husband, David, of Ringwood, William Jackson and wife, Karen, of Jacksonville, Fla., Patricia Unruh and husband, Paul, of Oro Valley, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services are private and under the direction of Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.
