GREENSBORO - Edward Leslie McLean, 89, died at Wesley Long Hospital on February 1, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, at Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel. The Rev. Vance Lowe will officiate. Entombment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park Mausoleum. Ed was born February 15, 1923, in Durham, N.C. His family later moved to Danville, Va., where he graduated from George Washington High School. During World War II, Ed served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aerial engineer with the 19th Squadron, 22nd Bombardment Group in the Philippines and Okinawa. After the war he worked in Danville and Robbins, N.C., before moving to Greensboro, where he was employed by Burlington Industries for 28 years before retiring in 1985. An avid race fan and golfer, Ed enjoyed visiting with his friends at Twin Golf Repair in his later years. He had a quick, sharp wit and a compassionate heart, was a loyal friend, and loved his family deeply. Ed is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elva McLean, and his son Mickey, daughter-in-law Tammie, and granddaughter Maddie. He was predeceased by his parents, Bertis C. and Madeline D. McLean; his sister Mary Jo Clifton; and his son Don. The family will receive friends before the funeral service from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel.
