In memory of
Arturo Valdez, 91, a resident of Wagon Mound, passed away on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013. He was born on Aug. 9, 1921 in Naranjos, N.M., to the late Frank Valdez and Adelina Ulibarri-Valdez. He attended school in Naranjos and Wagon Mound. He left school his eighth grade year to work and support his mom and sister. He was a cowboy at heart. He worked on sheep ranches in Wyoming and other ranches in Cimarron. He came back to Naranjos and then later moved to Wagon Mound. He worked for 25 years as a gas attendant for the Chevron Gas Stations in Springer and Wagon Mound. He enjoyed being at his ranch in Naranjos and taking care of his cattle. He had the best sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He is preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Abelina Valdez; brothers: Francis Valdez and Eldie Valdez. He is survived by his sister: Stella Lucero of Ocate; niece: Dolores Sterling (Ron) and children and grandchildren of Benson, Ariz.; along with other nephews; his special family: LaVerne Roy Martinez (Jerry) and children Brianna, Caleb and Siah of Hurley, NM; special friends: Lee and Nila Ledoux of Ocate; Don and Mary Schutz of Wagon Mound. Rosary services were on Tuesday with the funeral service following at the Santa Clara Church in Wagon Mound, with Father C. John Brasher as celebrant. Interment was to follow at the Santa Clara Cemetery in Wagon Mound with the following serving as casket bearers: Jerry Martinez, Don Schutz, Sam Clouthier, Fred Muniz, Carlos Romero and Joe Chavez.
