Hubert W. Hazard, 88, Reddington, passed away at 6:02 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at St. Vincent Medical Center, Indianapolis. Mr. Hazard graduated from Shields High School in 1942. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1946. He served with the 78th Infantry Division in the European Theater and was a member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. He worked all of his life on the family farm and retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 1983 after 27 years of service. He was a member of Reddington Christian Church, Reddington Rear Wheelers Tractor Club and Indiana Farm Bureau. Born April 4, 1924, in Jackson County, he was the son of Willis and Margaret Fox Hazard. He was married to Betty M. Beavers on June 21, 1947, in Cumberland. She preceded him in death Aug. 27, 1997. Survivors include his children, Kenneth E. (Jody) Hazard, Dennis J. Hazard, James B. (Lilli) Hazard and Pamela Obermeyer; six grandchildren, Todd Hazard, Troy Hazard, Tammy (Troy) Lucas, Darin (Tammy) Obermeyer, Tina (Troy) Peters and Rachel Hazard; five great-grandchildren, Zakary Lucas, Zane Lucas, Haley Hazard, Hiley Obermeyer and Anna Obermeyer; and two step-great-grandchildren, Jordan and Dylan Peters. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sisters, Martha Schmoe and Lois Young. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel in Seymour, with the Rev. Bill Weaver officiating. Burial will take place at Reddington Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Seymour American Legion Post 89, Veterans of Foreign Wars 1925, Disabled American Veterans 7 and Vietnam Veterans 7. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Reddington Cemetery Fund or to the donor's choice.
