RANELLI, SARA BUTERA Sara Butera Ranelli, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, entered into eternal life on May 10, 2011. Sara was a long time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ensley and has been a member St. Peter the Apostle Church in Hoover for the past several years. She was known as Mama to her children, Meemaw to her grandchildren, Aunt Sara to her many nieces and nephews, Sara to her many life long and close friends, and "Mama Ranelli" to her children's friends, employees and many customers, including students from UAB and BSC who frequented her Ranelli's Deli's. She was known for her vibrant personality and consideration for everyone around her. Sara expressed her love with food. Although specializing in Italian fare, she had an extraordinary gift for making all types of delicious food and over the years catered many weddings and special events for the people of Birmingham. Sara was preceded in death by her husband Sam C. Ranelli, her parents Kathryn (Katie) and Tony Butera, her sister, Mary Elizabeth (Mae) Cantevespre, her four brothers, Andrew, Thomas, Joseph and Vincent Butera, and grandson, John D. Bowman. Those left to cherish her memories are her sisters Rosalie Turner and Kathryn (Kitty) Carra, her children Frank, (Rene) Marilyn Ranelli Bowman, Sam Jr.(Julia), Kathryn, Rick (Sarah) and Judy; grandchildren Samantha Smith, Katie Westbrook, Alisha Hicks, Sam III, Simon, Sara, Sophia, and Sabrina Ranelli, great-grandchildren Aubrey and Steven Smith, and Anthony Carmello Ranelli, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She will be dearly missed by all. Visitation will be at St. Peter's Church in Hoover on Friday May 13 from 5-7:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7 pm.
