Richard L. Castner Richard L. Castner, age 77, of Dundee and formerly of the town of Italy, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital. Friends and family may call on Monday, April 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bottoni-Wood Funeral Home, 4 Mechanic St., Prattsburgh, where his funeral service will be held immediately following. Interment will be in Italy Valley Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Dick was born on Feb. 3, 1934 and was the son of the late George and Helen Castner. As a young man, he had worked at Seabreeze Park on the original merry go round, passing out rings for rides. He then worked in the heating and plumbing business. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved camping and fishing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, flowers and watching Yankee baseball games. He was quite a jokester and enjoyed a good laugh. He was a loving father and grandfather and loved being with his family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his companion, Shirley Dillion. Dick is survived by his two daughters, Millie (Roy) Schenk of Naples and Susan (Walter Davis) Whyman of Riverside; grandchildren, Kevin (Tracey) Schmitt of Prattsburgh, Kasey (Shanna) Schmitt of Naples, Kyle (Amanda) Schenk of Naples, Erin Whyman of Riverside and Kody Schenk of Naples; great-grandchildren, Emma Shepard, Wilhelm Schmitt and Tyler Northup; son-in-law, Gary Whyman; and lifelong friend, Rosemary Castner.
