In memory of
Harry J. Connell
Harry J. Connell of Marshallton, formerly of Hockessin, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 09, 2010. Harry was born December 6, 1942 to Charles C. Connell Sr. and Jeanette A. (Thompson) Connell. He was a graduate of Conrad High School class of 1960 and served honorably in the USCG for 8 years. Harry was the president of Charles C. Connell Co. and was proud to say he'd never worked anywhere else. He was also proud to have run in the Marine Corps. Marathon ten times. Harry was most proud, however, of his role as father to Kelley and grandfather to Keanan, both of whom work in the family business. Kelley has fond memories of family vacations to Canada, the Canary Islands, FL, etc. Keanan always will always remember his time with "Pops" having fond memories of watching trains, riding dirt bikes, racing quarter midgets, traveling to amusement parks, and building skate ramps. Harry was a lifelong member of Elsmere Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family wishes to thank Harry's fantastic medical team, especially Dr.'s Wald, Morris, and Rame and nurses Mary Lou, Kim, and Kerry at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Danielle and Janita of Bayada Nurses, and Sarah, Cindy, Moses, and Jim of Vitas Hospice. He is survived by his daughter Kelley; his step-daughter Robin Brown; his grandson Keanan; and his siblings and their spouses, Charles C. Jr. (Suzanne), Jeanette "Tiny" Owens (Eugene), and Louis R. (Karen). Also surviving are seven nieces and nephews and their families and a host of treasured, long-term friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 14, from 5-8 pm at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. Services will be held Monday, November 15, at 11 am at Elsmere Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tom Stout officiating. Interment will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, VAD Program, Div. Cardiac Surgery, 3535 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, or Elsmere Presbyterian Church, 606 New Road, Elsmere, DE 19805. To send condolences visit: www.mccreryfuneralhome.com 302-478-2204
