Eugene R. "Gene" Hunter
SMITHSHIRE - Eugene R. "Gene" Hunter, 65, Smithshire, passed away at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at his home. He was born April 28, 1945, in Monmouth, the son of Elmer Raymond and Margaret Leona Beaaird Hunter. He married Joyce Ann Ruble on March 26, 1966. He is survived by his wife of Smithshire; two daughters, Amy Hunter of Florida and Tina (Chance) Hunter of Smithshire; one son, Bill (Tondi) Hunter of Roseville; five grandchildren, Chad, Delaney, Kenny, Graison, and Chance; and siblings, Geraldine Higham of Moline, Louise (Jack) Dutton of Monmouth, Betty (Cliff) Stewart of Wisconsin, and Joyce Kaywood of Oquawka. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Josephine Hunter; one son (Kenneth); one grandson (Caleb); brother (Marvin Kaywood); two sisters (Betty and Ruthie); and one brother, JR. Gene was born and raised in Monmouth. After marriage he moved to Smithshire where he has lived since. He worked at the Monmouth Pottery, Admirals of Galesburg, and Maxey Drive-In. He has farmed from 1966 until present time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and golf. He was a member of the Warren County Sportsman Club. He enjoyed his grandchildren. Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 at Corman Memorial Home, Roseville. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at Cormans. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the new R.S.P.&E. Fire Station and or Hospice Compassus of Galesburg. Please sign the guestbook at www.cormanmh.com.
