GEORGE "GANTT" HAMNER
George Gantt Hamner - Palm Bay - George "Gantt" passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 1760 Garcia Street NE, Palm Bay, FL. Gantt was born in Quantico, Virginia on August 19, 1928 to George Carroll Hamner and Ruth Chambers Hamner and siblings, Sally Massey, Robert Craig Hamner, Ruth (Cookie) Hamner, and Carroll Babyak Reilly. He served in the United States Marine Corps from September 6, 1949 through 1951 at Camp LeJeune, NC during World War II. Gantt graduated from Georgia Tech in Mechanical Engineering. He met the mother of his four children while working for Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas and then accepted a job at Radiation Corporation which later became Harris Corporation in Palm Bay, Florida. He retired after 35 years of service and had several different patents through the years. He designed and built his "Dream Home" on Palm Bay Point in 1966. Those who knew him knew he was the "Life of the Party" whenever he was around. These were the happiest times of his life there with his family and friends. Gantt was a Gourmet Chef, and always like to blow his own horn! He loved to smoke all types of shrimp, chicken and fish. There wasn't much that he wasn't good at; he had a sense of humor, he loved to have blue crab parties at his house on the point with his family and friends any chance he could get. He loved to dance, he loved fly fishing, he loved being on the water no matter what activity it was. He loved to travel the world with whoever would go with him and he enjoyed his life to the fullest with a sense of humor at every turn. He is survived by his four children, Glen Hamner, Katie Stagner, Judie Hamner, Wendy Stephany. He is survived by 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, and 2 more on the way.
