KOPEL, Leah S. Leah S. Kopel (Feuerstein) of Brighton, MA, formerly of Portland, ME, passed away unexpectedly on November 2, 2010 after celebrating her 90th birthday on October 27. She was the widow of Carl Kopel. She was born and raised in Laconia, NH and graduated from Laconia High School as salutatorian in 1938. She resided in Portland, ME for over 50 years and enjoyed devoting her time as a volunteer to various charities and organizations and was a lifelong member of Shaarey Tphiloh synagogue in Portland. She is survived by her children Byron E. Kopel of Enfield, Stuart A. Kopel and his wife Sheryl of Newington and Nancy E. Kopel and her companion Larry Wiener of Waltham, MA, a sister Pearl Issokson of Vineyard Haven, MA and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Martin Feuerstein and Harlan Feuerstein. A Memorial Service will be held at the Levine Chapel in Brookline, MA on Thursday (November 4, 2010) at 10 a.m. followed by burial in Portland, ME at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Research. Shiva will be held Saturday through Tuesday evenings 7-9 p.m. at the home of Stuart and Sheryl Kopel in Newington, CT.
