Lisa Coston PORTSMOUTH - Lisa Mary Relaford Coston, 46, died Jan. 27, 2010 at the Riverside Regional Medical Center. She was born in Petersburg, Va., to the late William and Edna Relaford. Lisa received a degree in psychology from Old Dominion University, and worked in the human services field in Norfolk and the surrounding area for years, before becoming a full-time musician. Lisa, a mezzo-soprano, was known for her warmth and beauty of tone, her versatility of musical style and her expressive singing voice throughout the Hampton Roads area and beyond. She sang with numerous choirs, including the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Czech Virtuosi, and was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Lisa stayed busy as a solo performer and also taught voice at Christopher Newport University. Lisa also taught private voice lessons throughout the Hampton Roads area. Lisa is survived by her brother, Rosley Relaford; her sisters-in-law, Denita and Zandra (wife of the late Kevin Relaford); and her nieces, Alexa and Lauren Relaford; as well as her cousins, Thomas and Dr. Edna J. Griffin and children, and Elena Relaford and children. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Norfolk. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, or to the Ohef Sholom Temple in Norfolk in her honor. H.D.
