Stanley Kabot Oriskany Stanley Kabot, 92, a resident of the Eastern Star Nursing Home, died on Thursday, August 27, 2009, at the nursing home. He was born in Utica on November 7, 1916, the son of John and Anna Niegos Kabot, and graduated from New York Mills High School. He served proudly with the US Army during WW II receiving the Bronze Star. In 1945, Stanley was married to Martha Budzik in St. Stanislaus Church, Utica. He was employed with the U.S. Naval Dept. of Defense for over 20 years until his retirement in 1979. He formerly attended St. Stephens Church in Oriskany. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 7 in Clearwater, FL. Stanley was an accomplished golfer who in 1954, was the Utica City Amateur Champion. He also participated in numerous local tournaments and events in the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia. He at one time held the Champion Title of the Army Navy Country Club in the District of Columbia and the District of Columbia Northern Virginia Amateur. After moving to Florida, Stanley was a member of several golf associations, having won the four consecutive Club Championships at the Clearwater Country Club from 1981 until 1984. His survivors include his daughter and her husband, Sylvia and Frederick Setter of Oriskany; and a son, Stanley and his wife, Doreen Kabot of Manlius; three grandchildren, Kristen and her husband, John Pangia of Lima, NY, Courtney Kabot of CA, and Joel Kabot of VA; and his two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and William. He was pre-deceased by his three brothers, Wadstan, Joseph and Frank Kabot; and two sisters, Mary Topolski and Victoria Jecen. Also included are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:15 a.m. at the Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 284 Main Street, New York Mills, and at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Marys, New York Mills. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday (today) from 4 until 7 p.m. Burial with military honors will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Whitestown. Stanleys family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of the McDonald unit of the Eastern Star Nursing Home for the excellent care and kindness shown to him throughout his stay.
