WAKE FOREST, N.C. - Sara Dean Shelton Richards, 72, of 2928 Dargan Hills Drive, Wake Forest, and formerly of Danville, Va., died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. She had been in declining health since August 2004. Born Oct. 14, 1935, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Edd Shelton and the late Helen Lewis Shelton. Sara attended the First Pentecostal Holiness Church. She graduated from George Washington High School in 1955, then graduated from Elon University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Sara taught school for 37 years in the business field, and retired in July of 1997 from Dan River High School. She enjoyed horses, bridge, crafts and golf, and was an active member of the Ringgold Ladies' Golf Association, both before her illness and part time during her illness. She is survived by a daughter, Billie Jean Condit and her husband, Josh, of Wake Forest; a son, Kerry Richards Jr. and his wife, Tresa, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandchildren, Rebekah Dean Condit and Haley Shea Richards; three brothers, Douglas Shelton and his wife, Joan, Jimmy Shelton, and John Shelton and his wife, Pat; and five step-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. R. Wayne Bearden and the Rev. Barry Crumpton officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. before the service at the chapel; in addition, beginning Wednesday, Feb. 27, the family will be at the home of Doug and Joan Shelton, 209 Starmont Drive.
