HARMSEN, GERALD JAY Gerald "Jerry" Jay Harmsen died April 2, 2013 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, KS. He was born January 10, 1926 in Muskegon, Michigan the son of Alice and Benjamin Harmsen. Jerry was a fun, witty and endearing gentleman of class. He was also a dedicated man of faith. He was born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan, and graduated from high school in January 1944. His immediate military career started at Randolph Field, Texas, as an air corp. officer training cadet to be a pilot/bombardier, discharged in 1946. Jerry was a graduate of the University of Michigan in 1950 with a Mechanical Engineering Degree, Go BLUE! He received his MBA from New York State University in 1960. Jerry had a 42 year career with Worthington Pump of Overland Park, KS; and transferred in 1982 to the New Jersey branch. He had very dear friends and a wonderful life in New Jersey. Jerry moved home to Kansas in 2006. Jerry always enjoyed spending the holidays with family. Jerry married Dorothy Ann Holder in 1955. She preceded him in death on July 17, 2000. Survivors include son David (Lesilie) Harmsen of Olathe, KS; daughter, Susan (Brian) Parson of Lawrence, KS and; sister, Lois (Phil) Persenaire of Holland, MI; five grandchildren, Quinn Parson, James Parson, Brianna Parson, Daniel Harmsen and Emily Harmsen. Four great grandchildren Hailey Coon, Belladonna Parson, Brody Parson and Tucker Parson. He is preceded in death by his sister Shirley Buit; neice Lori Persenaire; and nephew Jim Persenaire. Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 24 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Muskegon, at 2 PM.
