Beloved father to Gina Mussett (David), Bonnie Harvey (Geoff), and Donna. Loving grandfather to Olivia. Beloved son of the late Madeline (nee Gutbrod) and Joseph A. Day. Loving brother of Joseph (dec), John (dec) (Mary), Patrick (Patricia), Mary Fink (Chuck), Madeline, William (Maria), Ann McKee (Bill dec), Joan Groves (Doug), James (Denise), Brian (Sue), Rose (dec), Barbara Baran (Don) and Maureen Nawalaniec (Steve). Uncle, great uncle and friend to many. Tom was born in Cleveland and raised in Garfield Heights, the 3rd oldest of 14 children. He attended St. Timothy Grade School, where some of his fondest memories and greatest stories began... his paper route, playing basketball, or just having fun in the neighborhood! He attended St. Ignatius High School and went on to graduate from Benedictine High School Class of 1962. Following high school, he served his country proudly in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for bravery. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Army, Tom worked as a driver for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company prior to starting his career with the Shaker Heights Fire Department.  During that time, he also moved furniture for Markay Trucking on his off days.  Upon his retirement after 26 years with the fire department, he continued to serve Shaker Heights by managing the city’s print shop. He enjoyed taking the scenic route wherever he travelled, often going on road trips with his six brothers.  He enjoyed good food, cold beers, and spending time with his many friends at the VFW and American Legion.  He was a dedicated father and grandfather, a loving son and a caring brother.  His special bond with his Down Syndrome sister, Rosemary, was especially inspiring throughout the years. Tom was kind-hearted and a genuinely good person that everyone loved and enjoyed. His generosity knew no boundaries as he willingly shared his time, talents and treasures with everyone.  No matter who asked or what the need was...his answer was always YES! He had the ability to make everyone feel special, no matter young or old...and he always did it with a wink and a smile.  He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Visitation Sunday, February 28, 2021 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at FORTUNA FUNERAL HOME, 7076 Brecksville Rd, Independence, OH 44131. Only 40 people at any given time allowed in the funeral home. Monday, March 1, 2021, 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael Church, 6912 Chestnut Rd, Cleveland, OH 44131. Interment will be at a later time. Please check back for more details.
