Hyla Jean Richter
Hyla Jean (McBride) Richter, 83, Oaktown, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Hyla was born July 29, 1932, in Dover Hill, IN, the daughter of Verron and Lenna (Hall) McBride. She married her first husband, Walter William Grabbe and he preceded her in death on October 30, 1958, then married her second husband, Walter Richter on November 20, 1960 and he preceded her in death on February 16, 2004. She was the manager of Dyball's, sold Avon, and was an avid quilter. Everyone knew her as the pillow lady. Hyla was a member of Bethel Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher, and the Immokalee Club. Hyla is survived by her daughters, Patty Crist and husband Jeff of Bicknell, Debbie Abrams and husband Chuck of Sullivan, and Angel Richter and her companion Alicia Marsh of Vincennes; sons, Bill Grabbe and wife Chris of Oaktown and Paul Richter and wife Angie of Ragsdale; grandchildren, Scott Page, Christina Nienaber, Jeffrey Page, Craig Grabbe, Travis Grabbe, Ashley Abrams, Clint Richter, Cole Richter and Jade Richter; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Sims of Odon; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her two husbands, Walter Grabbe and Walter Richter, Hyla is preceded in death by her parents; son, Mike Richter; great-granddaugter, Jasslyn Nienaber; one brother; and three sisters. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bethel Church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM also at the church with Rev. George Varns officiating. She will be laid to rest at Bethel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice. Arrangements were entrusted to Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Oaktown Chapel.
