John W. Pileski
John Walter Pileski, age 88, of Solvay, died at St. Joseph's Hospital on Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Born October 8, 1924 in Syracuse, New York, he lived in Solvay all his life and worked as chief mechanic for the Village of Solvay Highway Department until retiring after 46 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving overseas in Tinian. John was a longtime member of the Cross Lake Yacht Club and avid sailor. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy Cleveland and his six children, Anne (John) Kowalczyk, Peter (Tracy), Thomas, John (Cindy), Michael (Dawn) and Katherine (Scott) Smith as well as 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Thursday, August 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Ave. Funeral services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Friday in BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME and 9:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Church, Solvay, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated in his memory. Burial will follow in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Make-A-Wish Foundation of CNY, 5005 Campuswood Dr., E.
