In memory of
KARIN VON AROLDINGEN
VON AROLDINGEN--Karin. The New York City Ballet family mourns the passing of Karin von Aroldingen, the German-born ballerina known for the power and vitality of her dancing, and the knowledge, craft and care with which she passed on the legacy of George Balanchine. Invited by Balanchine to join NYCB in 1962, Karin created leading roles in such landmark Balanchine ballets as "Who Cares?", "Vienna Waltzes", "Stravinsky Violin Concerto" and "Union Jack", among numerous others. After retiring from the stage in 1984, Karin spent many years staging Balanchine's ballets for companies around the world, rejoining NYCB as a Ballet Master in 2004. A cherished friend and colleague to generations of artists, she will be greatly missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her daughter Margo Arjang and her entire family.
