Melvin Art Barnes Aug. 31, 1935 - Sept. 29, 2019 Melvin A. Barnes of Portland, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family Sept. 29, 2019 at 5:07 p.m. Born in Denver, Colo., he spent the majority of his life in the Portland area. Melvin was the oldest of five children. He was born to Margueritte and Art Barnes but raised by Emma and Art Barnes after his mother's passing. Melvin graduated from Benson High School in 1953 as student body vice president and president of the glee club. Married in 1956 to Donna Lee (Farley) Barnes they had six children between 1957 and 1967. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna in 2012; his parents, Emma and Art; as well as his brother, James Glasgow. Melvin is survived by his two brothers; one sister; six children; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at a local family member's home.
