In memory of
Andrew Wellman
Andrew Wellman January 19, 1989 - February 23, 2021 Meridian, Idaho - Andrew Charles Wellman (Drew) went into the arms of Jesus on February 23, 2021. His passing was unexpected and painful to his family and community. Drew was born January 19, 1989 to a very excited family. Bill and Debbie had hoped for a "boy" and their hopes came true. Drew grew up in Meridian, Idaho and was an gifted athlete at an early age. He could be found shooting hoops in the driveway, playing hockey against the garage doors, or riding his scooter down Silver Terrace. He loved to be outside and that quickly transitioned to his love for the mountains. Drew spent his summers wakeboarding on Payette Lake in McCall, and he spent winters "shredding" the slopes at Brundage Mountain. Drew graduated from Mountain View High School in 2007. He was an outstanding high school athlete. Drew played on the varsity football and basketball teams all 4 years; and he helped lead his basketball team to the state tournament every year. After high school, Drew attended Western Oregon University in Monmouth on a basketball scholarship. He returned to his beloved Idaho and attended BSU, College of Idaho, and CWI. Drew returned to McCall to work at Brundage Mountain and Shore Lodge when he was in his 20's. Drew loved his home state, and he explored the mountains, ski hills and beyond, lakes, and streams. Drew found a calling in 2019 at the Northwest Lineman College and was an honored graduate of the Telecommunications Lineworker Program. Drew climbed poles and helped connect people through fiber optics. After graduating from NLC, Drew worked at Syringa Networks and Blue Lakes Utility Services. He was grateful for the opportunity in his new profession. Drew could be found most Sunday evenings with his family eating dinner, swimming, and playing hoops out front with his nephews and niece. Drew had an infectious smile, contagious laugh, and enthusiastic personality. He could encourage a full gym of spectators to stand and cheer during a game, yet he could sit down and have a meaningful conversation with a stranger. Drew loved to make people laugh and he had a knack for knowing interesting facts about almost everything. We enjoyed hearing his stories and the passion he had telling them. Drew's kind heart and joyful spirit have made a lasting impact in his relationships and has given his family strength at this tough time. Drew is survived by his parents Bill and Debbie Wellman, his sisters Amy (Kepa Zubizarreta) and Beth Ann (Ryan Spolar) and his four nephews Joaquin, Henry, Beñat and Boyd and his niece, Hattie June. Andrew Wellman Scholarship has been created at First Interstate Bank, Nampa 12th Ave branch, if you care to make a memorial to his legacy. A Celebration of Life will be held at Bill and Debbie's home on Silver Terrace in Meridian Saturday afternoon, May 15, from 3-5p.m.
