John Garlasco
GARLASCO - John D., 62, of Covington, LA, passed away from natural causes brought on by years of resisting the effects of multiple sclerosis. John is survived by his daughter Tara (Brad) DeBarbieris; granddaughter Luna; parents Frances and Felix Garlasco; brother Mark (Kathy) Garlasco; sister Phyllis (Kingsley); nephew John Paul Garlasco and his son Nicolas; niece Gina Garlasco; and former wife and continued friend Linda Sullivan. John was a fiercely independent person even as a small child and was well known by all as being a very physically robust person before MS afflicted him in his late 20s. He was capable of performing tremendous physical work and was, for his friends and family, the "go to" mechanic for just about anything, especially cars and engines. John graduated from Northport High School in 1977, where he lettered in Football and Lacrosse. He went on to the University of Connecticut, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and was known by many as a kind friend with a great sense of humor. He spent the next 35 years in the aerospace industry as a design and manufacturing engineer working for DEVTEC, Hamilton Standard, and Grumman Aerospace, where, in each, he was always well known for getting things done and always in demand. He retired in 2018 and continued to remain a positive and friendly person to all he met and maintained his routine of meeting with local friends and acquaintances despite his degrading physical condition. His family will receive friends on Saturday, May 15th, 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby, CT. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 659 Tower Avenue, First Floor, Hartford, CT 06112 or by visiting www.nationalmssociety.org . For online condolences and to view the service live or after Saturday, May 15th at 11:30 a.m., please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com
