Arta "Jean" (Johnson) Kramer
Arta "Jean" (Johnson) Kramer, 80, of Stapleton, passed away May 3, 2021, at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha. Arta was born on Feb. 15, 1941, in Arnold, to Arthur and Nedra (Breneman) Johnson. She grew up on the family farm in Gandy. She graduated from the eighth grade in Gandy and attended high school at the UNSTA, which is now the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, graduating with the class of 1958. She graduated from Chadron State Teacher's College in May 1962. In June 1962, she married Dennis Kramer at the Presbyterian Church in Stapleton. For the next six years, she taught physical education in Torrington, Wyoming, North Platte and Scottsbluff. She and her husband then moved to Shamrock, Texas, and worked in the motel industry. In 1970, they moved to McCook, where their daughter, Denise, was born. They also operated motels in Hereford, Texas and Guymon, Oklahoma, until finally moving back to Stapleton, where she and her husband worked together in custom farming. Jean continued as a substitute teacher during this time. Later, she worked at the Vet's Club in Stapleton. Jean also served on the Stapleton Library board, golf board and McCain Cemetery board. She enjoyed spending time with her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren and her friends. She also enjoyed playing cards. Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Lyle; her parents, Nedra and Arthur Johnson; sisters, Janice Marie Johnson, Joan Gaites and Arlene Hill; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donny (Dottie) Kramer, Skinner (Twyla) Kramer and Eugene (Lenora) Kramer. Left to mourn is daughter, Denise (Todd) DiGiovanni; grandsons, Dylan and Cade DiGiovanni; brothers, Jim (Jackie) Johnson and Jerry (Donna) Johnson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Memorials are suggested to the family. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 7, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at a later date. The service will be livestreamed on the Adams & Swanson Facebook page for those unable to attend. Book signing will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 6, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
