Gordon Robert Kirk
Gordon Robert Kirk October 3, 1939 - April 12, 2020 Gordon Robert Kirk of West Orange, N.J., passed away one year ago today on April 12, 2020, after a protracted illness at the East Orange VA Hospital. He was 80 years old. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on October 3, 1939. Gordon was raised in New York and North Jersey. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1958 and served in the US Army from 1959-1961. In 1967, he married Jean Harrington. In 1987 they separated. Some of Gordon's interests and hobbies over the years included politics and the law, travel, and electronics. His love for maps and geography was a particular passion he made sure to pass on to many in the generations to rise after him. Anyone he knew could expect a phone call at any time of the day to hear about his most recent encounter or field his questions in their areas of expertise. For those who did not know him, he always had a joke or quip at the ready to disarm them. He was an avid sports fan and preferred to watch the game with snacks and a soda. His parents, Douglas Kirk and Regina Flaherty Kirk, as well as his brothers, Kenneth and Donald, predecease him. He is survived by his daughter, Samantha Kirk (Laura Franz), and son, Matthew Kirk (Brandon McCormick), and his two granddaughters. He is also survived by his partner, Nancy Probasco, his sisters Carol Katz and Barbara Hoey, and his brother Douglas Kirk. He is survived by numerous loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
