Cecile C. Wheeler
Cecile C. Wheeler, 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Derby, VT, April 5, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease, surrounded by Merle, her loving husband, and family. Cecile was born October 25,1935, in Holland, VT, the 9th child of 12 siblings of Rufus and Dorilda Patenaude. Cecile attended elementary school in Rock Island, Quebec, and Sacred Heart High School in Newport, VT. She attended nursing school in Quebec, Canada. She had a long career in nursing beginning at Broadview Hospital in Newport and retired as a special education nurse from the Orleans Supervisory District. Cecile was dedicated in her service to St. Edward's Catholic Church from the age of 15 when she began singing in the choir. She trained many groups of altar servers, served as a Eucharistic minister, Liturgical minister and continued as a member of the choir until the pandemic. Cecile is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Merle Wheeler, and by her children Lisa Dickinson and husband Douglas Dickinson, Martinsburg, WV; Michael Wheeler, Derby, VT; Stephen Wheeler and wife Amy, Derby, VT; Annette Wheeler-Nisbet, Brownington, VT. Cecile is also survived by 10 beloved grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 9,2021 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Curtis-Britch & Bouffard Funeral Home, located at 4670 Darling Hill Rd, Newport, VT. The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:00 AM, at Saint Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line, VT. Due to the pandemic, there will be no reception. A celebration of Cecile's life will be scheduled at a later date. The Wheeler family wish to express their sincere thanks to everyone who provided prayers, words of encouragement and kindness; the Orleans/Essex VNA and Hospice, and Dr. Lippman's medical staff. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Edwards Catholic Church, Derby Line, VT and Sacred Heart Alumni Association at PO Box 394, Derby Line, VT 05830.
