YOUNG ROBERT BOND On February 24, 2021 at his home in Dover, Delaware. Rob was born in Upper Darby, PA, son of Robert and Ann Young.He graduated from Upper Darby High School, where he was voted "friendliest" in 1961. He attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio, graduating on the Dean's List. While at Denison he played midfield lacrosse on the only undefeated team in the country in 1964. It was there he met his true love, Karen Alexander, and they were blissfully married for 54 years. On to Ohio State Law School and upon graduation, he joined the law firm of Young & Alexander in Dayton, Ohio. Two sterling sons were born in Dayton, creating a remarkable family bond. In 1974, the family moved to Dover, Delaware where Rob began his practice in insurance defense work. A variety of community commitments followed. He served as a Little League coach with his sons for 9 years winning 3 championships and later served on the Board. He was a Planned Parenthood State Board member for 6 years and a Senior Olympics Board member for 15 years. As a 47-year member of the Delaware State Bar Association (DSBA), he served as its President from 2004-2005.He was a founding member and President of the Delaware Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, attaining Diplomat Status for taking over 100 cases to jury verdict. He served on the Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts board for many years and was V.P. Three additional boards he was proud to serve were the Blue Gold Board of Trustees, the Coastal Concert Board and the Community Legal Aid Society Board of Directors. Rob spent much of his non-lawyer, non-judicial time taking classic, tragic literature and transforming it into funny and entertaining musicals, filled with great tunes and new lyrics. Those operettas helped support legal services for the indigent via the Combined Campaign for Justice. They were a collaboration with Jim McGiffin and a fabulous troupe of lawyers! Rob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Karen Young, as well as his sons, Jeffrey Young and his wife, Shannon of Dover, son Randall Young and his wife, Janna of Rockingham, VA. He dearly loved his grandchildren, Madeline and Sarah Young of Dover, and Alexander of Rockingham, VA, who called him "Gampy." Also surviving are a sister, Gretchen Lerch of Philadelphia, PA and her two sons and their families.
