In memory of
Joel Harris (Papa Joe) WESTERBERG
Age 83 of Shoreview, Minnesota Passed away peacefully on December 25, 2020. Joel was born on January 11, 1937 to Robert and Margaret Westerberg. He grew up in SE Minneapolis, the youngest of nine children: Harold, Irvin, Bill, Harris, Tom, Danny, Jerry and Phyllis Stoehr. He was married to the love of his life, Eleanor, (Ellie) for 63 wonderful years. He was an amazing dad to his 4 children Craig (Maria), Jill Hadash, (Eddie), Michael and Joey. He was a proud and devoted Grandpa to 9 grandchildren, Brandon Carlston (Lindsey), Ali Urbatsch (Brent), Vanessa, Lindsey, Christian, Brianna, Jonathan, Audrey and Aria and 4 great grandchildren, Cayden, Everly, Connor Joel and Quinn. He is also survived by brother Tom, Austin, Texas and sister-in-law Mary Lou , Minneapolis and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Joe worked for Hennepin County Highway Department for 33 years, retiring at a young age giving him many years to devote to the youth of S.E. Minneapolis coaching and mentoring. He loved coaching his children in a variety of sports, especially hockey. He was a season ticket holder of Gopher hockey for 46 years. He was his children's biggest fan and reveled in watching, coaching and participating with them. He continued to coach them as they became adults where he was a fixture in the third base coaches box on his son's fastpitch softball team for over 35 years. Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends cheering on his favorite Minnesota sports teams. For all that knew and loved Joe, he was "Papa Joe" a gentle giant. He taught his children to work hard, have fun and make a positive impact on the people in their lives. He truly lead by example. Papa Joe will be deeply missed by family and friends and especially his "glued to the hip" best 4-legged buddy…Charlie. The best part of your life is when your family becomes your friends, and your friends become your family… a little bit of crazy, a little bit of loud and a whole lot of love. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later time. www.Washburn-McReavy.com Hillside Chapel 612-781-1999
